CHICAGO, June 5, 2015 — Manish K. Mehta has joined the Chicago office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property practice group.  Mehta joins from Brinks Gilson & Lione, where he founded and chaired the Indian practice group.

Mehta is a well-rounded patent practitioner, with a breadth of experience that includes intellectual property litigation, post-grant proceedings, and patent prosecution.  On the transactional side, he has substantial experience in prosecuting patent applications and rendering freedom to operate opinions in the mechanical and electromechanical fields.  Mehta’s litigation experience includes all aspects of the discovery process, including defending and taking key depositions and witness preparation of senior level executives.  His experience also includes participating in the claim construction process, preparing expert reports, and all phases of pre-trial preparation.

Mehta represents companies ranging from start-ups to major corporations in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, automotive, e-commerce, chemical, and computer software and hardware.

"Manish is a skilled patent litigator and an excellent addition to our formidable IP practice group.  He has a successful practice representing a variety of leading technology companies," said Guy N. Halgren, chairman of Sheppard Mullin.

As the founder of his former firm’s Indian practice group, Mehta has a keen interest and focus in aiding Indian companies in intellectual property matters in the United States.  He is actively engaged in educating and formulating intellectual property strategies for his foreign clients.

"I am thrilled to join Sheppard Mullin and have been very impressed by the firm's strategic vision and successful growth of the IP group.  I was especially attracted to the entrepreneurial spirit of the Chicago office and the firm’s collaborative culture," Mehta commented.

“With the addition of Manish, we continue to grow the Chicago office.  He adds depth to the office’s IP litigation practice and brings significant patent prosecution expertise,” said Lawrence C. Eppley, Sheppard Mullin’s Chicago managing partner.

"Manish joins Sheppard Mullin as part of our ongoing strategic goal to expand our intellectual property practice in Chicago and firm wide.  He is an accomplished IP attorney and the latest key lateral partner to join our practice group,” commented Daniel N. Yannuzzi, chair of Sheppard Mullin’s Intellectual Property practice group.

Mehta received a J.D., cum laude, from John Marshall Law School in 2006, where he was an editor of The John Marshall Law Review, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois in 2003.

Last month, IP partner William Lambert joined Sheppard Mullin’s Palo Alto office from Kilpatrick Townsend.
