Washington, DC, June 15, 2015…Global law firm White & Case LLP today announced the arrival of Farhad Jalinous as a partner in its Washington, DC office. Jalinous, who will be a member of both the Global International Trade and the Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practices of the Firm, will head White & Case’s National Security and CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States) practice.

The National Security/CFIUS practice will focus on helping foreign entities address the US national security issues they face when acquiring or investing in US businesses. Consisting of lawyers with regulatory and compliance experience, the practice will advise clients that have dealings with a variety of US government agencies with national security responsibilities.

“Farhad has negotiated many intricate national security agreements with the US government on behalf of clients,” said Peter Carney, White & Case's Regional Section Head, Americas Competition. “With Farhad joining our firm, we are significantly enhancing our ability to assist clients that go before federal regulators, who have the authority to approve or modify the terms of acquisitions based on national security concerns.”

Jalinous advises clients on the regulatory aspects of investing in the United States, in particular CFIUS reviews of foreign direct investment in areas related to US national security. He also assists clients with the mitigation of foreign ownership, control or influence (FOCI) under the applicable national industrial security programs, including assisting entities with majority or minority FOCI to obtain security clearances and participate in the US classified market.

John Reiss, Head of White & Case’s Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice said, "Inbound activity into the United States is going to continue to be very significant for years to come. As a leading global firm representing numerous corporations and state-owned entities in their acquisition efforts in the United States, our clients demand the best in all areas of practice. With Farhad joining our team, we now have one of the top three or four lawyers able to assist clients in navigating the approval processes for acquisitions in sensitive industries.”
