Chicago, IL – Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced that Donald L. Mrozek, who has held the position of Chairman since 1989, has been succeeded by Kevin Joseph Burke, who was recently elected following Mr. Mrozek’s decision to step down.

Over the past 26 years, Mr. Mrozek led the growth of Hinshaw from a regional insurance firm, serving the Midwest and Florida, to a 550-lawyer firm with far more expansive services in 11 states and London. Mr. Mrozek’s tenure was also marked by critical initiatives that later became industry trends, including market segment differentiation, streamlined law firm management, and he was at the forefront of making diversity central to the firm’s culture and strategic priorities.

“The unique aspect of this transition is that so much of who we are today and where we hope to go has been shaped by who Don is, and what he’s done; and it is all a permanent part of our ethos. He led the firm with a commitment to the culture he personifies, his financial acumen resulted in the principle of a fortress balance sheet for financial stability, he defined our place in the market with a precise recognition of who we are as a legal services provider, and built our client relationship focus with recognition of their needs and excellent, efficient service delivery. Above all, he is and always has been trusted as a high integrity leader. Consequently, Don will remain actively engaged in key roles in finance, client relationship partnering and lateral/merger growth and integration at the firm. He will also maintain his active practice, as he has been able to do through these years,” Mr. Burke said.

Mr. Burke begins his term with Hinshaw being a mid-market, multi-service firm with a national footprint and market-leading strength and depth in the insurance industry, representation of professionals, business litigation, consumer class action and middle-market transactional work.

Mr. Burke has served as Vice Chairman of the firm since 2009 and has been a member of the firm’s Management Committee for more than twelve years. He has engaged in an active trial practice over the last thirty years. His practice has focused on litigation of business disputes and medical/health lawsuits. He is also a certified mediator and is a Fellow in The American College of Trial Lawyers.
