Sutherland.  Mr. Sutherland, who joins Jackson Lewis from Jones Waldo, has experience representing management in all facets of labor relations including union organizing, collective bargaining, dispute resolution and union decertification.

Mr. Sutherland has acted as lead negotiator in contract negotiations for a significant number of union agreements in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. He has successfully handled numerous labor arbitrations on subjects ranging from disciplinary and termination issues to difficult contract interpretation questions and changes in business practices. In addition, he has represented employers before the NLRB in a wide variety of matters and has successfully petitioned the federal court to overturn labor arbitration awards unfavorable to management.

Mr. Sutherland also has extensive federal, state and administrative litigation experience in virtually every area of employment-related disputes and provides preventive training to employers in all aspects of workplace law. Mr. Sutherland has litigated wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour lawsuits before state and federal courts and administrative agencies and has successfully represented employers before the NLRB, the EEOC, the DOL and their respective state counterparts.

He has extensive experience representing clients in FLSA matters such as wage and hour and overtime compliance, prevailing wage conformity and certified payroll submissions under the Davis Bacon Act, as well as processing and challenging wage conformance requests.  

Mr. Sutherland received his B.S., cum laude, from the University of Utah and his J.D. from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.
