New York, NY, February 25, 2016 – Continuing the firm’s national expansion and furthering the leadership of its technology practice, Lowenstein Sandler recently opened an office in the Salt Lake City area. The office brings together accomplished lawyers focused on intellectual property. The new space is staffed by five attorneys who will work seamlessly with the firm’s offices in Palo Alto; New York; Roseland, NJ; and Washington, DC.
“We are tapping into the robust pool of legal talent in Salt Lake City and linking them to our strong presence in Silicon Valley, and our work with both preeminent technology leaders and startups,” said Gary Wingens, Lowenstein’s chairman and managing partner. “This expansion into Utah bolsters the firm’s western presence, particularly in the technology sector.”
The new office at 520 North Marketplace Drive in Centerville – about 20 miles from downtown Salt Lake City – is staffed by partner Kevin Grange, three associates and one of counsel.
“We see an opportunity to expand our capabilities serving blue-chip and iconic tech clients in Silicon Valley, with both leading sophistication and value,” Grange said. “Our strong expertise in intellectual property and patent law is extremely important in the western United States, which is home to an increasing number of technology companies each year. The innovative companies we serve include both established and new startups.”
The Utah office follows Lowenstein’s 2014 expansion in Washington, DC. In New York, the firm has grown by adding more than 70 lawyers to better serve its national client base of top hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capitalists, M&A clients, life science companies and debtors and creditors in insolvency matters.
“Kevin is a great leader for the new office, as he knows the Western market and its talent and brings a strong background – having managed the patent portfolios from startups to Fortune 500 companies, and many companies in between,” said Mark Kesslen, chair of Lowenstein’s Intellectual Property practice within the firm’s Tech Group. “This office is built for the growth of the firm and the success of our clients, who benefit from the work we do to protect their unique products and the creative processes that bring them to market.”
Working on more than 8,000 patent and patent applications each year, Lowenstein has a robust patent practice that scores highly in many prestigious legal ranking guides, including Technology Center 2100, Intellectual Property Today, Technology Center 2400 and IAM's Patent 1000. Additionally, Lowenstein’s VentureCrush program is a related set of community-enhancing events that build and support an ecosystem for entrepreneurs and investors to network and connect, and Lowenstein was among the first firms to provide pro bono patent representation for low-income inventors.
