WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 5, 2016) – Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Tara K. Gorman has joined the firm’s Real Estate practice group as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office.  Tara, who focuses on hotel development and acquisitions, was previously a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig LLP.

“Tara has an exceptional track record of providing complex counsel and commonsense advice on a range of sophisticated real estate transactions, especially for those involving hotel acquisitions and operations,” said Mark Birnbaum, Chair of Perkins Coie’s Real Estate practice.  “Her substantive experience in these matters is a significant asset to our national real estate practice and hotels and leisure group.  We are delighted to welcome her to the partnership.”

Tara focuses her practice on hospitality and resorts, real estate acquisitions, development and finance, and leasing.  She represents sellers, owners and licensors in the acquisition, disposition, finance, development, management and leasing of major hospitality, resort and commercial properties and counsels institutional investors on their real estate investments.  Her property deal portfolio includes domestic and international hotels, office buildings, condo hotels, water parks, casinos, restaurants and retail stores.  Additional areas of practice depth include telecommunications, entertainment and finance.

“Tara’s keen understanding of the U.S. hotel development and real estate market is well-appreciated by Perkins Coie," said William Malley, Office Managing Partner of Perkins Coie’s firm’s Washington, D.C. office.  “Her knowledge of and participation in international transactions involving hotel real estate operations and financial agreements further supports our expanding practice.”

Tara is a Professor in Residence with the Hospitality and Tourism Law Program at American University’s Washington College of Law and a member of the Advisory Board of Drexel University’s Center for Hospitality and Sport Management.  She frequently speaks and writes on emerging real estate issues, including brand standards in hotel management agreements and best practices in hotel sale negotiations.  Tara earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and received her B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
