SAN FRANCISCO – Lior O. Nuchi, who has represented companies on the leading edge of information technology and life sciences during a distinguished career in Silicon Valley, has joined McGuireWoods’ corporate practice as a partner in the San Francisco office.

Nuchi advises multinational companies in initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic alliances. He has represented numerous companies in every stage of their growth, many of them beginning in the venture capital phase. He also has represented major investment banks involved in underwriting technology companies in public offerings, as well as venture capital firms based in Silicon Valley, Israel, Europe, China and India.

Nuchi has worked as a secondee in the corporate law departments of Fortune 500 technology companies in California, Israel and Japan. In addition to his M&A and corporate finance work, Nuchi counsels clients on intellectual property protection and litigation.

Nuchi joins McGuireWoods from the Silicon Valley office of Alston & Bird, where he led a team that represented China Development Bank in the $360 million privatization of nutrient manufacturer Yongye International Limited — recognized by China Law & Practice as the 2015 “Private Equity Deal of the Year.”

“Lior brings nearly three decades of experience advising clients on deals ranging from early-stage financings to complex, cross-border transactions worth billions of dollars,” said Scott Westwood, chair of McGuireWoods’ Mergers & Acquisitions and Cross-Border Transactions Department. “His experience representing high-tech companies will be a tremendous asset for us as we pursue our strategic priority of growing our transactional capabilities in San Francisco.”

“Lior is a great addition to our growing team,” said David Powell, managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office, which launched in March 2016. “He is a well-known and highly respected dealmaker in Northern California and a leader in international tech transactions. His addition brings great benefits for our clients. We are delighted to welcome him.”

McGuireWoods ranked among the top 25 law firms for M&A transactions involving U.S.-based targets in the first half of 2016 in Thomson Reuters’ M&A Legal Advisory Review. With more than 100 lawyers, the firm’s M&A team advises clients on matters throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim. The firm’s strategic alliance with Shanghai-based FuJae Partners provides additional capabilities to serve clients in China and other international markets.

“McGuireWoods has a stellar reputation for its corporate practice and cross-border capabilities, as well as its commitment to client service excellence,” Nuchi said. “I’m excited by the opportunity to help grow the firm’s global transactional practice and look forward to contributing to building a major presence in San Francisco.”
