NEW YORK (April 24, 2017) — Sullivan & Cromwell LLP announced today that Adam Szubin, former Acting Treasury Department Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, has joined the Firm as Of Counsel in the Financial Services Group. Mr. Szubin will be based in the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Mr. Szubin joins Sullivan & Cromwell following a distinguished career at the Treasury, having previously served as the Director of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. As the Treasury Financial Intelligence Under Secretary, he led the policy, enforcement, regulatory, and intelligence functions of the Treasury Department aimed at identifying and disrupting the lines of financial support to international terrorist organizations, proliferators of weapons of mass destruction, narcotics traffickers, and other actors posing a threat to our national security or foreign policy.

Prior to his work at the Treasury, Mr. Szubin served as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice where he also worked as a trial attorney in the Civil Division, serving as a member of the Terrorism Litigation Task Force.

Mr. Szubin is a graduate of Harvard College (B.A., magna cum laude, 1995) and Harvard Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1999) and was a Fulbright scholar. Mr. Szubin clerked for Judge Ronald Gilman on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit from 1999 to 2000.

Mr. Szubin is admitted to practice in New York, and will be supervised by members of the District of Columbia Bar until his admission to the D.C. Bar.
