The Lawdragon Process

The Lawdragon selection process has been created over 35 years of researching and reporting on the legal profession and creating guides to the most effective legal professionals. Our team brings more than 100 years in the lawyer and legal professional reporting and information business.

The foundation of our selection is in journalism. We research each guide extensively, studying which professionals have had significant impact, including an emphasis on recent activity. We encourage submissions – though they are not required – and review them alongside hundreds of candidates we will identify and consider for The Lawdragon 100 Global AI & Legal Tech Advisors, which debuts in 2024.

Legal tech has certainly been a topic of great interest for the past decade. With the propulsion of AI over the past year, it’s necessary to offer the best reporting possible sorting the true visionaries and leaders of these crowded fields.

To make a Lawdragon guide, an AI/legal technologist will have made significant contributions to the legal tech/AI fields. In general, our guides require a substantial stint based on years of experience, generally 10. While we anticipate that to hold true for this guide as well, the pace of developments leave open the door for experts of lesser vintage.

The professional focus of those included in the 100 Global 100 AI & Legal Tech Advisors is, broadly speaking, those professionals creating, developing and advancing the use of technology and AI to improve the delivery of services and knowledge across the vast legal spectrum. Areas of interest include generative AI, including research, predictive analysis, document compilation and management, and task automation; e-discovery; process serving; marketing and development of potential plaintiffs; case management; and hybrid/remote work platforms, including remote depositions and digital reporting.

Many leaders in this area are lawyers – or more accurately, former lawyers. We anticipate an equal number will come from a predominant technology or other background.

A note: in 2024, we are also introducing The Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Cyber Lawyers. Those are lawyers whose law practice focuses on cyber data, privacy, breaches, and developments of the law and its application in the greatest reach of the technological world. The distinction is they practice law, rather than facilitate the delivery of its services.

Lawdragon is an advocate for inclusion in the legal profession and searches extensively for female candidates and others who represent diversity.
