PHILADELPHIA (July 2, 2012) – Four Ballard Spahr attorneys became partners on July 1, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today. The new partners are resident in Ballard Spahr’s Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Los Angeles offices. They include an intellectual property attorney, two litigators, and a business and finance attorney.

Scott D. Marty, Ph.D., Atlanta

Dr. Marty is an intellectual property attorney who holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology. He represents clients in the biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries in matters involving patent prosecution, portfolio evaluation, and litigation.

Alan S. Petlak, Los Angeles

Mr. Petlak practices general commercial litigation with an emphasis on mortgage banking, real estate, securities, and product liability. He advises lenders on matters involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act and on title issues and foreclosure. He handles securities-related class action lawsuits under the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act and arbitrations before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and advises on regulatory matters brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Dee Spagnuolo, Philadelphia

Ms. Spagnuolo represents companies and individuals in complex civil litigation and during internal corporate investigations, and counsels on compliance and regulatory matters. She also defends clients in criminal investigations involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), state and federal false claims acts, disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) fraud, and environmental compliance.

Heike K. Sullivan, Philadelphia

Ms. Sullivan is a business and finance attorney who counsels high-net-worth individuals and families on taxation and estate planning matters. She drafts wills, inter vivos trusts, and prenuptial agreements, and establishes family limited partnerships and LLCs. She also advises executors and trustees in the administration of estates and trusts.
