ATLANTA, July 17 --  The global law firm Jones Day announced today that Geoffrey Gavin has joined the Firm's Atlanta Office as a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice. 

Mr. Gavin's practice focuses on patent litigation and counseling. He represents clients from a wide variety of technologies, including wireless telecommunications, software, athletic footwear and equipment, medical devices, paper products, floor covering, and logistics equipment. He has served clients in many different aspects of patent infringement and patent procurement matters, in addition to actively advising clients in areas of patent strategy.

"With substantial patent experience in a variety of industries, he will be of immense value to clients in the Southeast as well as those around the world with operations in the region."

Prior to joining Jones Day, Mr. Gavin attained positive results for clients in numerous lawsuits. He defended a multinational corporation that designs and manufactures sports footwear, clothing, and accessories in many cases in district courts throughout the country. Mr. Gavin also successfully represented both plaintiffs and defendants in several cases concerning mobile phones, tablets, and software. He has obtained favorable outcomes for multiple clients in cases concerning product packaging technology. Mr. Gavin also represented market-leading companies in successfully resolving infringement disputes related to license plate reading technology and the conversion of 2-D live action motion pictures to 3-D motion pictures.

Mr. Gavin graduated from Duke University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he also served as editor of the Alabama Law Review and earned the Dean M. Leigh Harrison Award. He is admitted in Alabama and Georgia. Mr. Gavin also routinely serves as a guardian ad litem pro bono, representing the best interests of children in local courts in the Atlanta area.
