Washington, D.C. (January 9, 2014) — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP and its firm chair Kimberly Leach Johnson today announced that Larry P. Cote has been selected as the new Washington, D.C. office managing partner. His term began on January 6, 2014. John F. Dienelt, who served in that role from the beginning of the firm’s entry into D.C. 22 months ago, will continue his full-time practice in franchising law.

“I am very pleased to announce that Larry will be the new managing partner of the D.C. office,” said Leach Johnson. “His long history of government service and demonstrated leadership qualities as an attorney with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Department of Justice and the Army JAG Corps will be tremendous assets for his role as our D.C. managing partner.”

Cote joined Quarles & Brady nearly two years ago, after serving more than 12 years as an attorney for the United States Department of Justice. Prior to becoming a partner in the firm’s Health Law Group, he served as associate chief counsel for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Diversion and Regulatory Litigation Section. He was the agency’s primary legal advisor on issues related to the diversion of legally produced controlled substances and listed chemicals into illegitimate channels. In that capacity, he supervised all administrative litigation for the DEA involving pharmaceutical controlled substances. Prior to joining the DEA, Cote was a trial attorney in the Civil Division of the DOJ and associate general counsel at the DOJ’s Executive Office for Immigration Review. He also served as a special assistant United States attorney and as an ethics advisor for the Office of Counsel to the President of the United States. A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Cote continues to serve as a major in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

"I am also very pleased that Larry is my successor," said predecessor John Dienelt. "He has the skill set and commitment to lead us to continued growth and success in the DC office."

“I am honored to have been chosen as the new managing partner of the D.C. office,” said Cote. “I look forward to the challenges ahead, and I am excited about the opportunity to lead the firm’s growth and expansion in the D.C. market.”
