WASHINGTON, DC, March 24, 2014 — Stuart Eizenstat, co-chair of Covington & Burling’s international trade and finance practice, has been appointed by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to the U.S. Department of Defense Policy Board.

The Defense Policy Board, chaired by former Deputy Secretary of Defense John Hamre, provides independent, informed advice and opinion concerning major matters of defense and national security to the secretary of defense and the Department of Defense. Other members include former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and Madeleine Albright; former Senator Sam Nunn; former Congresswoman Jane Harman; former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft; and former Secretaries of Defense James Schlesinger, Harold Brown and William Perry.

Ambassador Eizenstat is a former deputy secretary of the Treasury, under secretary of Commerce, under secretary of state for Economic Affairs, and ambassador to the European Union during the Clinton Administration. He was also the chief White House domestic policy adviser to President Jimmy Carter, and was recently appointed by Secretary of State John Kerry as his special adviser on Holocaust issues.
