Washington, D.C. – June 25, 2014 – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that Charan Brahma has joined the firm as a partner in its Intellectual Property practice in Washington, D.C. He joins the firm from Greenberg Traurig, LLP and was previously a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Brahma is an experienced intellectual property litigator with significant experience in both trials and arbitrations, often for high-profile clients. He concentrates much of his practice on patent litigation and appeals across a number of industries, including software, communications networks, medical products, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. He also handles arbitration and trade secret disputes, counsels clients on freedom-to-operate issues and portfolio development strategies, and handles patent prosecution matters before the U.S. Patent and Trade Office.

“Charan’s arrival strengthens the depth of our IP trial experience,” said Ryan Schneider, a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. “There is a great synergy between our practices, as we have worked with many of the clients he has represented over the years. We are well-positioned to enhance the portfolio of services we offer clients, as a result of Charan’s diverse industry experience, the firm’s bench strength on the east and west coasts, and our track record handling international IP matters.”

Brahma earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, and has a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

“In seeking to grow my practice, I looked for a firm with a robust IP practice of seasoned, trial-ready patent lawyers and a dynamic Washington, D.C. office.  Troutmans’ attorneys have a well-deserved reputation among high-tech and pharmaceutical clients for delivering practical, business-minded results,” said Brahma. “I’m really looking forward to working with this wonderful group to continue to bring my clients great results in challenging matters.”

“Charan is a great addition to our firm as we look to continue expanding our Washington office to meet a broad spectrum of our clients’ needs,” said Amie Colby, office managing partner of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. “He has experience with such a wide variety of IP issues, and his capabilities will be of strategic value to clients across the firm.”
