Ballard Spahr is pleased to announce that Adrian R. King, Jr., has rejoined the firm as a partner. Mr. King was a partner at Ballard Spahr for more than seven years before being selected 17 months ago to serve as First Deputy Attorney General to Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane. During his tenure there, Mr. King was involved in several high-profile consumer financial services matters. Mr. King was also active in the National Association of Attorneys General and involved in several multistate investigations.

As a member of the firm's Consumer Financial Services Group, Mr. King is particularly well suited to advise clients who are—or could be—subject to enforcement actions by state attorneys general. Under Dodd-Frank, state attorneys general have the authority to enforce certain provisions of that law, including those involving UDAAP. Mr. King will speak on July 10, 2014, at 12 p.m. ET at a firm webinar titled “State Regulators and AGs Flexing New Enforcement Muscle under Dodd-Frank.”

Over the years, Mr. King has held a number of significant positions in government. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell and was later appointed to the Governor’s Cabinet as Director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, managing a budget of more than $100 million.

Mr. King also served as Governor Rendell’s liaison to the Departments of Banking and State, as well as the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue.

In addition to being a member of Ballard Spahr’s Consumer Financial Services Group, Mr. King is a member of the firm’s Business and Finance Department and its Government Relations, Regulatory Affairs and Contracting Group; P3/Infrastructure Group; White Collar Defense/Internal Investigations Group; and EB-5 Practice.
