New York, 3 September 2014 – Hogan Lovells announced today that Lewis Cohen has joined its Finance Practice as a Partner. Mr. Cohen will reside in the firm's New York office.

Mr. Cohen joins from Clifford Chance where he has been a partner since 1997. He has practiced law in New York his entire career, focusing on complex international capital markets transactions. Mr. Cohen's experience spans a wide range of transaction types, including securitization, structured finance, and debt and equity capital markets. His practice includes work for issuers and underwriters, with particular expertise in innovative and cutting-edge financings. He is a frequent speaker on regulatory matters impacting the structured finance sector and has represented a wide range of trade associations in developing advocacy positions for the industry. Mr. Cohen is also one of the pioneers of the Mexican FIBRA sector, one of the fastest growing areas of the Latin American capital markets. He represents three public companies in that market.

“Lewis is a highly regarded structured finance practitioner with deep experience across geographies and asset classes. His arrival illustrates our commitment to strategically strengthening not only our Finance practice in New York and Latin America, but globally,” said Sharon Lewis, global Finance practice group leader.

Ms. Lewis noted that Cohen's experience is complementary to existing Hogan Lovells practices, including its market-leading REIT practice, which looks to expand globally as international companies increasingly turn toward the equity and debt capital markets for funding solutions in the commercial real estate sector. In addition, Ms. Lewis observed that Cohen's broad knowledge and deep experience in structured finance dovetails with Hogan Lovells' award-winning structured finance practice in Latin America, Europe and globally.

“Lewis’ arrival gives us an even stronger New York-based finance team that is able to provide the highest quality of service to our clients in the U.S. and across the globe,” said New York Office Managing Partner Dennis Tracey. “This addition reinforces our strength in the finance arena in New York, and further sets us apart as one of the dominant players in the international structured finance sector.”

"As one of the world’s leading law firms in the structured finance space, with a great depth and breadth of U.S. transactional, regulatory and other resources to draw upon, Hogan Lovells stands out to me as the ideal platform for growth over the coming years” said Cohen. “I am looking forward to working alongside such an established and forward-thinking global team.”

Cohen received his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and his B.A. cum laude from Clark University.
