NEW YORK, April 22, 2015—McGlinchey Stafford PLLC is pleased to announce that Edward “Ted” E. Groves, a litigator with 25 years of experience in governmental agencies, corporations, and in private practice, has joined the firm’s New York office as Of Counsel in its Government Investigations and White Collar Defense Group.

Groves is a former federal prosecutor within the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Assistant District Attorney for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Prior to joining McGlinchey Stafford, he served as Senior Counsel & National Litigation Coordinator for MERSCORP Holdings, Inc., and has also spent several years in private practice with large national law firms.

He is the second attorney with governmental agency experience to join McGlinchey Stafford’s expanding Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice in the past several weeks, following the addition of L. Eades Hogue to the firm’s New Orleans office in March.

“We’re thrilled Ted has joined our growing national team,” said David Dugas, a former U.S. Attorney and co-chair of McGlinchey Stafford’s Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice. “Ted’s broad background better enables us to assist clients with a multitude of issues, whether they’re faced with an agency investigation or are seeking guidance with domestic or international tax issues. He’s able to draw upon firsthand experience within the DOJ and as in-house counsel to bring a unique perspective to companies’ legal challenges,” Dugas added.

Groves’ experience and practice includes matters relating to offshore banking, complex litigation, compliance, corporate governance, domestic and international taxation, products liability, the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and government investigations. He also provides counsel with regard to mortgage and financial institution commercial litigation matters. Groves attended the Georgetown University Law Center, where he received his Master of Laws in Taxation in 2001 and his Juris Doctorate in 1990.

“Ted is well-recognized as a litigator who understands the complex nature of business, banking, and taxation matters on both a federal and state level, qualities that further strengthen our Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice,” said Bob Driscoll, co-chair of that practice group and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Chief of Staff, Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Driscoll leads the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. “Ted is an exciting addition to our firm and is an excellent resource for our national client base in both civil and criminal matters,” Driscoll added.
