Joe Macrae founded Macrae in Silicon Valley in 2001 and for many years served as CEO and Global Practice Leader. Macrae’s partners Carter Brown and Melinda Wallman now occupy those roles.

He serves as Co-Managing Partner for the firm’s California operations and has an active practice working at a strategic level with our key clients and representing high profile partners and teams.

He continues to work across Macrae’s network of offices on exclusive searches for clients and representing partners and groups in New York, Washington, DC and London.

He is a frequent speaker on topics pertaining to the global legal market. These include multiple events at Harvard, Yale and Stanford as well as law firm clients.

He has been involved in successful mergers both domestically and UK/US and regularly works with clients on the evaluation of potential merger opportunities.
Before moving to California in 2001 Macrae successfully built and sold ZMB, a London based legal recruitment company between 1990 and 2000. Macrae began his career at what was then the law firm Herbert Smith practicing in London and Hong Kong.
