Featuring the leading lawyers in the United States and beyond.
Lawdragon currently produces three different types of guides: The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America, our annual “lawyers of the year” look at the best of the profession; an annual guide to the most powerful employment lawyers produced with Human Resource Excecutive Magazine; and our new Insight Guides to outside counsel that focus on a particular practice area or industry.
**New: Also check out our Sept. 2016 relaunch of Lawdragon’s 100 Leading Legal Consultants and Strategists.
Each year, we publish The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America – the most elite guide in the legal profession. The Lawdragon 500 guides are selected from a combination of editorial research by Lawdragon staff; submissions from law firms; and an online nomination form that allows visitors to our site to recommend and comment on their favorite lawyers. Our own editorial research is the most important factor in the selection process, but firm submissions and online nominations are both extremely helpful.
Any visitor to our site can use the online form to nominate indivdiual attorneys. Law firms can send submissions for their attorneys by email to Editor John Ryan at email@example.com or by calling 646.241.5427.
The most recent guide is the 2016 Lawdragon 500, which will be featured in the 2016 Magazine due out in the Fall. As in 2015, we also will feature the “Legends of the 500” – for those who have made the guide at least 10 times – and the Lawdragon Hall of Fame of past 500 members who have made remarkable contributions to the profession
Dates for the 2017 Lawdragon 500 are as follows:
- Submissions can still be made by email (starting July 18) or by the online nomination form (starting Aug. 1).
- Submissions and nomination deadline is Nov. 4, 2016. Updates to submissions allowed until Dec. 15, 2016.
- Announcements of 2017 honorees begins in January 2017.
- The Lawdragon 500 and new members to the Hall of Fame and Legends lists will be featured in the 2017 edition of Lawdragon Magazine, published in the fall.
What to send for submissions
Some firms only provide us with names to consider; other firms prefer to send supporting information for each lawyer, which typically is about a paragraph or two of accomplishments with an emphasis on recent legal matters from the past year. Supporting information is helpful.
The Lawdragon 100 Leading Legal Consultants and Strategists
Due to popular demand, Lawdragon has brought back its guide to the top consultants and strategists in the legal industry. The 2016 guide, published on Sept. 12, will be featured in the 2016 annual magazine along with profiles of select guide members.
The re-launch of the guide was based on editorial research. Stay tuned for details on how to submit nominations for the 2017 edition.
Most Powerful Employment Lawyers
Each year, Lawdragon releases The Guide to the Most Powerful Employment Lawyers, produced in partnership with Human Resource Executive (HRE) magazine. The guide is released on Lawdragon.com and in HRE’s print magazine in June. The 2016 guide was the ninth annual guide published by Lawdragon and HRE.
In addition to the 100 Most Powerful Employment Lawyers, the guide features the Top 20 in Employee Benefits; the Top 20 in Traditional Labor & Employment Law; the Top 20 in Immigration; 40 Up and Comers in the field; and a Hall of Fame list.
The selections are based on Lawdragon’s editorial research as well as by submissions from firms and other visitors to Lawdragon.com.
The 2016 guide was published in June 2016 on Lawdragon.com and by HRE.
Dates for the 2017 guide are as follows:
Lawdragon Insight Guides are the insider’s look at top outside counsel as chosen by the world’s leading in-house lawyers.
Developed by an editorial team with more than 50 years experience in legal research and reporting, we have devised a new approach to tired lawyer directories. After extensive consultation with hundreds of top corporate counsel, we identified the need for a more exclusive guide, which provides more in-depth detail on the strengths and styles of leading outside counsel.
We will produce Lawdragon Insights segmented by industry and practice with particular emphasis on areas in which there is increased interest and activity.
Our methodology will be the anchor of each guide. Each will be vetted with clients at the top of the relevant practice area to report on trends as well as objective metrics on leading firms. Each guide will be published online at Lawdragon.com and in print form, distributed to in-house counsel and by subscription. The Insights will offer interviews with leading in-house counsel, as well as Firm Reports analyzing the strengths of individual practices and lawyers.
The first edition, Lawdragon Insights: Private Funds, was published in Spring 2014. Other upcoming titles include Cross-Border Litigation and International Dispute Resolution.
Firms may submit information for consideration to Katrina Dewey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
